When I was in my second company in United Arab Emirates. I was the one who’s making the Method Statement, ITP and Checklist and doing Internal Audit and all that. The worst thing we have no quality manager that time and no one was managing us, but little did I know that it was a way for me to learn more.
It was a way to arrive to a new adventure, additional skills and knowledge about the documentation on site with regards to quality. But here is more, I was able learn how to write a “job safety & environmental analysis and risk assessment.” Now, You might be asking “Why we need to write Job Safety & Environmental Analysis and Risk Assessment?” You will find the answers later.
Now, here are things you need to know to lead you in “Understanding About Job Safety & Environmental Analysis and Risk Assessment.”
1. What is JSEA and Risk Assessment
First, a Job Safety & Environmental Analysis is a process where health and safety hazards and environmental impacts associated with each step of an activity are identified, the associated risk is analyzed and evaluated taking into consideration appropriate controls that will reduce the level of risk to an acceptable level so that work can be undertaken safely or without harm to the environment and damage to the property.
Second, a Risk Assessment is the determination of magnitude of an event’s consequence and likelihood, to establish a level of risk using the risk matrix.
An activity can not proceed without approved JSEA and Risk Assessment. Just make sure that JSEA and Risk Assessment for an activity is submitted ahead of time before the time or date of start working on it.
2. When the JSEA and Risk Assessment will be developed
When you have to develop a method statement for an activity or a job, a JSEA and Risk Assessment shall eventually be made. It means that in every method statement formulated or developed there would be accompanying JSEA and Risk Assessment.
Every step of the activity must identify the job potential hazards and find the safest way to do it.
Here are some jobs or activity that a JSEA and Risk Assessment is required.
- Working in confined spaces
- Working at height
- Excavation and backfilling
- Electrical and chemical work
- Lifting activity
- For all other jobs that the risk rating is extreme, high or medium
- Works where use of plant, tools and equipment
- Tests
3. Who prepare JSEA and Risk Assessment
The Safety Officer or the person who prepares the method statement can prepare a JSEA and Risk Assessment. A person who has enough experience can also write and prepare because he can easily identify the potential hazards of an activity. But it will be limited only within the construction team technical staff.
4. Who approves the JSEA and Risk Assessment
If you are working in a subcontractor side, it will be checked and approved by a concern party within the Safety Department of the main contractor then it will be sent to the Engineer or the Client representative for final approval prior to application on site. And the person who is working with the main contractor will prepare their JSEA and Risk Assessment.
Once it reached to Engineer or to the Client representatives it will be disseminated to the approving parties within the organization and contribute each comment prior to approval of it.
5. Why prepare JSEA and Risk Assessment
Why necessary to prepare a job safety & environmental analysis and risk assessment of a job? This might be your question. Well, in practical answers to this is that:
- To determine the potential health and safety hazards associated with each step of a job.
- To put control measures for the risk rating is unacceptable.
- And the most important is to prevent injury, incident from happening and damage to property.

Hello sir, this is zeeshan subhani persuing batch 3rd year mechanical engineering . I am intrested in qaqc job , can you suggest me courses which are requried other than qaqc course like autocad etc..
Not really required but that will boost your qaqc career. You can take QMS training, CQE, etc.
Thumbs-up.
Thanks..
Sir, I have completed B. com, due to lack of job opportunities in commerce I decided to do QC.
Sir kindly tell me if I can do this?
It’s better if you have taken engineering course, it would be very easy for you. Me, at the age of 24 I went back to school and pursued civil engineering course so if you are at that age right now you can do what I did.
Hello sir,
I really pleasured to read all the reviews and comments. Sir I need your opinion about my career : basically I am a holder of Bachelor in Civil Engg and Master of Engineering in Construction Engg. and management and also I have done 1 year Diploma course in construction safety, IOSH as well as at the time of my pg I have done my project in construction safety. after that i worked as lecturer in engineering college for the two years . right now i am working in uae as hse engineer . but now our management take me and appointed as qaqc engineer for one month due to our qaqc engineering taking his annual leave. they gave 1 week training for me. and still i am doing and getting touch with ms,itp etc..
our manager said, if your interested in qaqc you can continue this as your profession. i am totally get confused how to take decision.
my doubts are :
1. which one is the best and suited job for my career .( hse or qaqc)
2. what are the scope even after gain good experience
3.which profession gives more salary ( sudden growth)
4. somebody suggesting and recommending hse more better than qaqc. bcz high payment from the initial .somebody said qaqc is more batter than hse.
so sir kindly please consider me and give me your opinion
Firstly, you are lucky that you have been offered a new career as QA/QC Engineer. Well, I can say it is awesome.
Ans. 1. Both are best but for me QA/QC is the best of all 🙂
Ans. 2. Well, if you are talking about QA/QC the boundary is all about Inspections (Work at site and material as well as testing), development of MS, ITP and Checklist, etc. Attend meeting, submit quality report reports, site surveillance and all that.
Ans. 3. Definitely QA/QC Engineer because we are here.
Ans. 4. QA/QC Engineer position for me, here is the proof if you want to switch to Consultant position you can. If you want to become a Site or Project Engineer you can because it is related. I knew a friend like that. So, there is a lot of possibilities if you are a QA/QC Engineer.
Thank you so much Sir.
You are welcome..
